American football is not a popular sport in Bulgaria, judging by how little interest Superbowl parties seem to generate every year in pubs across Sofia. Many will indeed claim that it hardly deserves the tag football, as the ball spends more time in players hand than at their feet. Regardless, Team Sofia is the only of its kind in Bulgaria, flying the flag and promoting the sport in the country. The preparations for the 2009 season have already started and on January 12 the first training session on Akademik Stadium in Sofia was held in typical playoff conditions in subzero temperatures and on a snowedover field.
