103 000 Bulgarians vote in national campaign for Bulgarian symbols

A total of 103 000 Bulgarians, 10 per cent of whom were expatriates, have voted so far in a national campaign to select their favourite Bulgarian symbols, Violeta Ivanova, chair of the Bulgarian Association for Business and Tourist Information BABTI, told a round table. The campaign, organised by BABTI and launched in April 2007, aims to select the most characteristic symbols to identify Bulgaria abroad. Bulgarian News Agency BTA is the media partner of the campaign. Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin told the participants in the roundtable that Bulgarias culture, history and modern achievements have brought new prestige and character to the European Union. Kalfin said that opinions of Bulgaria were largely formed by visiting tourists. He said that 74 per cent of tourists, or 3.4 million people, who visited Bulgaria last year were from EU member states.

Michael Lynn ordered to pay back 1.3M euro

Illfamed solicitor Michael Lynn was ordered on February 25 to repay loans amounting to 1.3 million euro that he used to buy four apartments for investment purposes, the Irish Independent daily reported.A High Court judges ruling came after the National Irish Bank NIB lodged a claim with Lynn.Justice Peter Kelly received the High Courts order in Lynns absence. When his name was called at the Commercial Court, no one stepped up to act on his behalf. Justice Kelly said that NIBs claim for damages against Lynn was unsubstantiated because another solicitor, Fiona McAleenan, was the one facing the charge.

Denitsa Hristova is the new managing director of Benchmark Finance

Denitsa Hristova was appointed the new managing director of BenchMark Finance at the beginning of the year. Hristovas previous experience includes working at the Economy Ministry as head of the human resources department and director of the human resources and organisational development divisions. Between October 2004 and December 2007 she was chairperson of the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad. She has also been a member of the Bulgarian Associations for Human Resources Management and Development and was on the board of directors for the Association of Specialists on Labour Protection.
